Completing a Letter of Intent

If a SAUL member dies, a valuable tax free lump sum is available to your relatives, dependants and nominees. The Trustee of SAUL uses its discretionary powers to decide who should receive this lump sum. The Letter of Intent is a confidential letter to the Trustee stating a member's wishes in the event of their death.

If you are a SAUL member it is very important that you complete a Letter of Intent and keep it up to date - particularly if you are not married or if your family circumstances change. Please forward your completed form to your employer’s Pensions Officer.

Combining benefits from a previous period of SAUL service

If you have a previous period of service in SAUL it might be possible for you to link it with your current SAUL service so that all your benefits are calculated using your Pensionable Salary when you retire or leave the Scheme. If you joined SAUL after 17 January 2002 you have one year from the date you joined to apply. If you joined before this date you can apply to combine your benefits at any time.
