The following conditions apply if you wish to rejoin SAUL:

  • If you are over 35 years old on rejoining, the SAUL Rules state you may be asked to pay contributions at a higher level than the standard rate. This requirement has been temporarily suspended by the Trustee, but there is no guarantee that this practice will continue
  • An application to rejoin SAUL will normally be subject to a declaration of normal health and you may be asked to give medical evidence. You cannot make an application, or rejoin SAUL while on sick leave
  • Normally you may not exercise your right to rejoin SAUL more than twice.

The rejoining process

If you wish to apply to the Trustee to rejoin SAUL please speak to your employer’s Pensions Officer who will give you the necessary forms. Once completed, the forms will be forwarded to the Trustee who will consider the application to rejoin SAUL. At this stage the Trustee may request additional information about your health. If the application is successful the date of joining SAUL will usually be the first day of the month after the Trustee has given its approval.
